A buoyancy aid vest must be comfortable and provide maximum buoyancy and therefore safety in case of desalination. Several criteria must be taken into account : your weight, the context of the practice and the practice itself.
Your weight : Each vest size is assigned an inherent buoyancy in Newton. If you weigh 60 KG, a size M vest with a buoyancy of 50 Newton is suitable for you. If you weigh 100 kg and by chance you manage to put on a size M vest with a buoyancy of 50 Newton, the vest will be of no help to you, no buoyancy.
Scope of practice : for professional renters, clubs, higher than standard buoyancy vests are required. The PFD’S RAPID, SLALOM CLUB and EUROCLIP are the type of vests used by these structures. In addition to superior buoyancy, they are also reinforced at the seams, thus meeting the constraints of intensive use.
Practice : a good vest is the one that you don’t feel, that becomes one with you. Depending on the activities you do, the choice of vest can be crucial. For example, the JADE is ideal for the practice of SUP. Its thinness does not hinder the ascent on the board and the sub inguinal strap prevents the ascent of the vest. The FOXE perfectly hugs the paddler’s body and provides excellent buoyancy for whitewater and offshore paddlers.
When buying a vest, dress as if you are going to sail, adjust it and take the position as if you had boarded your kayak or canoe. You will appreciate the fit of the vest, the comfort, the ease of movement and position.
